 One day in the summer of 2006, both of my daughters received a special gift from my friend Katherine, it set into motion a life changing experience.(Thank you Kath!)

     It was a silver bracelet and it was very different.  Included with the bracelet was a story about fair trade and about the artisan group that created it - The Bombolulu workshop which provides workspace for artisans with disabilities in Kenya.

     This single gift introduced me to Fair Trade and inspired me to research and learn about the unique handmade products created under Fair Trade conditions.

     As I learned more about Fair trade and fell in love with the products, I felt that I needed  to share this knowledge with others.  I felt that opening up a store that proudly featured fair trade products was one such way that I could educate others.

     I now had a mission to open a store offering Fairly traded items, knowing I was giving back on many levels.  I felt that I had discovered a way to help others around the globe while at the same time providing meaningful, quality handcrafted products that truly make a difference.

     Within 4 months, I opened Simply Unique Boutique in Holliston, MA.  The response to the products that make a difference was overwhelming and in the first year business was very good.  I was still teaching preschool 4 mornings a week and running the store in the afternoons and weekends but it occured to me that if I really wanted to make things work - I needed to make some changes. 

     After just one year - I moved the store to Milford, MA into  a much larger space and busier plaza.  I hired additional staff, extended the store hours, increased my inventory as well as the types of products that I offered.

     I am proud to say that after only 3 months at the Milford store - I have recently been presented with the Reader's Choice - #1 Gift Shop in Milford -  voted by town residents through voting in newspapers and online as well as Honorable Mention for Jewelry Store.

     While it is challenging being a mother, wife, chauffer and volunteer  - all while teaching and starting my own business, I tell my customers when they ask why I continue to try to do it all........ 

 "I consider myself very lucky.  Not only do I have a wonderful family but I have two jobs that I really enjoy, both of which help me feel I am making a difference, however small, in the lives of others."

     I am now teaching both of my daughters all the aspects of running a business and I hope that they will feel the same passion that I have to try to make a difference.
