Kisii Sculptures from Kenya
Handcarved Kisii Soapstone
More than a hundred years ago, the Kisii people carved pots from soapstone around their villages in order to carry with them a supply of fat to massage into their skin to protect themselves from the sun and wind. Since then, the carvings have been modernized, but the process has remained the same.
Each sculpture is handcrafted and unique in size and coloring.
